Bowser Beer was featured in an article called Pooch Hooch on pg. 34. The online edition is not up yet, so run out and pick up a copy.

The article pointed out that it’s tempting to sneak some beer to your thirsty pals but there are safer alternatives… like Bowser Beer for dogs. Nicely done, Caitlin!

Earlier in the month, in honor of Beer Day (March 1 for those not aware of it), Chicago NOW ran an article on the 15 most bizarre beers around. We were listed in the #3 slot. So, we are proud to say we are both bizarre and legitimate!

Seriously, now that summer is fast approaching, dogs need hydration. Sometimes water is just not enough. Their appetites may be affected by the heat so make sure they get enough to drink. And beware of those puppy dog eyes pleading for your beer!

Wow, talk about a medal run! Giant George, owned by David Nasser, stands 43in tall paw to shoulder, and weighs 245lb. He was just named by Guinness World Records as both the world’s Tallest Living Dog and Tallest Dog Ever.

Like Susan Boyle, four-year-old Giant George has become an overnight celebrity in his hometown of Tucson, AZ. First, he won the dog-equivalent of the Oscars and then he got invited to be on Oprah’s show. Can he handle it ?? Apparently he can.

On the plane trip to Oprah’s show, American airlines gave him a row of three seats to himself. His arrival in Chicago was met with a growing legion of adoring fans and paparazzi, and most curious to him…..snow!

But he took it all in stride, sleeping off the jetlag anywhere he wanted at the hotel(but mostly on his own mattress). We’re not sure he’s up to signing pawtographs yet but watch for him to be on someone’s red carpet.

Read about his recent adventures to Harpo studios and what it takes to feed (110lb/month!) and house this gentle giant, on George’s own website.

Congratulations George! He’s a George we can be proud of.

CNN is reporting that the American Veterinary Medical Association says people are not paying enough attention to their pet’s oral hygiene! Dogs just aren’t getting their teeth brushed enough. According to the article, dogs hide their tooth problems behind their big, goofy smiles and distract us with lots of tail wagging.

Well, the jig is up . . . let’s get serious. Just announced: the movie UP is an Oscar nomination and dogs everywhere are ecstatic. Note their frenzied circling, jumping, tail pumping and yipping every time they see you. They are bursting with the news and so proud of their movie.

Though it was a classic case of the underdog (Dug, the Golden Retrieverish dog) versus the mean dogs, we were out of our seats cheering for Dug and Kevin, his avian sidekick. Dogs everywhere are lining up to help promote this movie. . . and what is more important when you are schmoozing the Hollywood crowd, than pearly whites and fresh breath!

This oft overlooked secret weapon of the PR set is now taking center stage. Owners should be flocking to their favorite vet for a Chopper Check Up so that their dogs can go out with confidence and minty breath to better network for this nomination.

On a side note, Dax (our rottie), has gotten over his snit regarding how his breed was portrayed in the movie. He realizes the high, silly voice of the Rottweiller was simply a prop for a great cinematic opportunity and Method Acting was not employed in this role.

There has been an outpouring of sympathy and support, as well as an increase in the reward offered for her safe return ($5000 at last count). She went missing from James’ bike shop West Coast Choppers last Monday.

Even if you do not live in California, the power of social networking can bring amazing results. Tell your California contacts to stay alert and hopefully Cinnabun and her now-famous pink collar will be found.

To anyone who has lost a loved one, be it a pet or a family member, you can relate how painful this must be. Fame or fortune doesn’t matter, the strong emotional bond people have with their pets is universal. We hope that Cinnabun will be found in good health. Our heart goes out to Jesse and Sandra and to all who are looking for a lost pet.

Have you ever lost a pet? Even for just a few hours? How did it make you feel?

Hug your dog today!

And a shelter puppy is a perfect birthday gift for you!

A little doggie whispered in my ear that Oprah is considering adopting another dog. All the Busy Dogs are wagging with excitement over the news. They are also concerned about the plight of so many good dogs in need of a home. We all hope that Oprah chooses her next canine companion, be it a puppy or a more mature dog, from a deserving shelter. She has featured puppy mills and rescue organizations on her show many times and this would give much needed attention to the thousands of dogs who are waiting to be loved.

Oprah, please don’t just go back to PAWS in Chicago and find another Sadie. . . showcase stories of how seemingly hopeless dogs have been rehabilitated and bond successfully with their new families. Talk about all the great mixed breeds that are just as smart and wonderful as the pure breeds, and are waiting for a chance to have a home. Use your great power to convince people to consider adopting a dog from a reputable shelter so that the no-kill shelters don’t have to turn any away.

With the crisis in Haiti and the housing crisis in our own country, there is a HUGE need for people to not only to open their wallets, but their hearts as well, to the plight of so many dogs in need.

We applaud Oprah for all of her past efforts in bringing attention to pet adoptions and support of shelters.

Oprah, here’s a suggestion….. adopt a rescue dog… name it TomCruise (you can call it Cruiser for short)….and then let it jump on your couch till its heart’s content!

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

What fate awaits this faithful, if somewhat sarcastic Yugoslavian Mountain Hound, a frequent contributor to Late Night with Conan O’Brian? Besides an uncanny resemblance to moi, he generously featured Bowser Beer in an interview he did with Hollywood’s D.O.G. fabulous pet boutique a few months back. The interview can be seen on our News Page and I’m sure he tossed a few back Bower Beers after that long day of filming. He acted like he couldn’t wait to get some.

Will he be considered “intellectual property” of NBC (Wow! I didn’t know he was that smart) or will his handler, Robert Smigel maintain custody and be allowed to manage his appearances? Perhaps his overly active libido or his infamous potty mouth has finally landed him in the doghouse. He has no fans at the Westminster Dog Show and has insulted almost everyone he meets.

I think they should bring him back on American Idol and let him have a showdown with Simon. Chomping on his trademark cigar, he would probably utter his famous catch phrase ‘for me to poop on’, as in “Simon, bring in the next contestant… for me to poop on”, followed by “I keed, I keed!!” (as in ‘just keeding!’)

We will miss you Conan and Triumph. Note, in the interview, he did not want to poop on our Bowser Beer…..He liked it, he really, really liked it!

– Dax

To appreciate his comedic style and see why we’ll miss him, view the following hilarious interview:
